Chairman's Message

Dear Fellow Members & Readers,
As I pen this message, I realise that we have just a few more days left before a new year dawns upon us. After a gruelling few years of battling Covid-19 and its aftermath, I share your hope that the first sunrise of 2023 will usher in a New Year that is full of cherished memories. All of us were faced with hardships while navigating the challenges of the pandemic, some more than others, but none more so than the frontline and essential workers who’ve put their heart and soul into serving us during the toughest of times. To them, I raise a toast and thank them for their dedication and sacrifice.
I would like to especially thank those in the hospitality industry, who went beyond their line of duty. Despite the challenges they faced in their homes or personal lives, they showed up to work everyday and served guests with a smile. They ensured that the human touch and the gesture of humility and warmth which is a hallmark of Indian hospitality wasn’t lost out on. I thank them all for the indomitable spirit because they have truly embodied the principle of "Atithi Devo Bhava," or "the Guest is God," and have shown their commitment to the well-being and safety of customers.
Over the last year, we have seen an exuberant resurgence of domestic travel, as people look to explore their own country and support local businesses. As we step into the New Year, there is also a clear renewed interest in international travel as restrictions ease and people feel more comfortable venturing further afield. This is good news for the hospitality industry, as it means that we once again have the opportunity to touch new heights and set greater benchmarks in terms of service.
For 2023, I expect to see a shift towards shorter, more value-centric trips. As people look to make the most of their vacations, I anticipate a trend towards multi-destination trips and experiences that offer good value for money.
To support the revival and growth of our industry, we will need to continue to work together and collaborate at the industry level. By coming together and supporting each other, we can build a stronger and more resilient industry that is better able to weather future challenges.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our colleagues and partners in travel and tourism. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment have been an inspiration, and I am confident that together, we can build a bright future for our industry.
Finally, on this first ever issue of our newsletter, I leave you with a call to support each other and enable many small & big businesses to flourish – let us continue to create many more moments of joy and make travel in and to India a truly memorable experience.
Happy New Year 2023 to all my fellow AIRDA members!
