Q&A: Talking to Sushil Jhaveri, Managing Director – Treasure Island Resorts

Treasure Island is a popular resort on the Pune National Highway. It is just six km ahead of Lonavla – making it the nearest hill station from Mumbai. The resort is promoted by the Jhaveri Group, which has major interests in diamond & diamond tool exports, retail marketing, electronics manufacturing and marketing.

In this interview, we talk to Sushil Jhaveri about the many aspects to Treasure Island that make it such a great holiday destination.

Q: What are the main attractions at Treasure Island?

A: One of the main attractions at Treasure Island is its picture-book setting, enhanced by some very creative landscaping. Another highlight here is the artificial waterfall near our expansive swimming pool – the largest pool in Lonavla. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner with the waterfall as your backdrop, in a beautiful garden setting.

The lush green lawn by the poolside is ideal for weddings, parties, and barbeques, with a capacity of up to 1,500 people. Other facilities include a Health Spa, Sauna Bath, Gymnasium, Steam Bath and Jacuzzi. The resort also has fully equipped conference halls that can accommodate between 150 and 500 people.

Q: What about rooms, F&B and entertainment at the resort?

A: We currently have 55 rooms that include Premium Rooms, Standard Suites and Deluxe Suites. All rooms are air-conditioned and have the following facilities: telephone, cable TV, private refrigerator and yes … bathtubs in bathrooms as well.

The Baywatch Branto restaurant near the pool, serves up Indian and Continental cuisine along with traditional fare; Tropicana is the discotheque at the resort. Entertainment does include indoor and outdoor games such as pool table, table tennis, chess, carrom, video games, cricket and volleyball. We also have a dedicated children’s park at the resort – couldn’t leave the kids out in our plans.

Q: Have you won any industry awards for best practices?

A: We have won “The Best Practices Club” award from RCI – we won the award twice, which is encouraging considering RCI has over 3500 resorts in its network. We have also bagged the “Best Hospitality” award and the “Best Resort Management” award and the “RCI RESORT OF INTERNATIONAL DISTINCTION” for achieving standards of excellence in resort quality and hospitality.

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has also recognized us as a major promoter of tourism and tourism activities in rural Maharashtra and added Treasure Isand to its Tourism Incentive Scheme – 93 for 5 years. The resort was included under TIS-99.

We  have a tie-up with RCI,  which gives us an entry into one of the world's largest vacation-exchange communities. RCI members are entitled to participate in an exchange system across a global resort canvas, which puts us on the world map.

From the “comments book” at Treasure Island

A pleasant, refreshing getaway from the mad rush of Mumbai. This resort is what I would call amicable in terms of surroundings, with a setting that’s pure and clean.

I must say that the service here is helpful and genuinely pleasant – right from the time you check in, till you finally pack your bags. The rooms are so plush and comfortable, they can be quite a threat to some of the star hotels.

Great place for a family vacation and to re-charge your batteries.
