Q&A: Talking to Ranjit Goel, Chairman & Managing Director,
Best Western Resort Country Club

Ranjit Goel is Chairman & Managing Director of Best Western Resort Country Club, Gurgaon. Ranjit is an Electrical Engineer and graduated from BITS Pilani in 1954. He has held senior marketing and management positions in reputed national and international companies.
This techno-entrepreneur on a mission always wanted to work on a project that was environment friendly and it wasn’t long before Ranjit made his move into hospitality – Best Western opened its doors to guests in 1990.
We talk to Ranjit Goel about Best Western Resort Country Club
and what makes it different.
A: I always wanted to be in the hospitality business, where I could interact with people. So when the countdown began on my voluntary retirement, I saw something bright on the horizon: a country club project – and an opportunity to realize my dream. I made my first move in 1989, when I picked up fifty acres of land; the next year saw me investing all my time and energies to make sure my dream club was commissioned within schedule. I’m really proud to say that we launched well within our deadline: September 1990.
A: Answering this question does remind me of a series of incidents at my club in the city, which had time restrictions for children. I guess most clubs have a rule for children in terms of age, timings and access to club facilities. This hurt me, especially when my wife and I would be with our friends at the bar, or dining area and our children had to wait at the parking lot, in our car. I wanted to change all that with a club that would be children-friendly.
Don’t you think a club should offer a lot more in terms of fun facilities? I’m talking about activities around open spaces and outdoors – horse rides, camel rides … even golf for kids.
A: The scale here is big, really really big. We have 120 deluxe double bedroom units/suites, 10 conference / banquet halls and the largest party place in Delhi – with a lush green expanse of 5 acres. (If you want to know, the entire second half of the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was shot at the club.)
Add to that a large children’s playground, garden dining hall, coffee shop, bar-lounge-disco, gym-spa, a practice golf course on site, a mini amusement park and three swimming pools. We also have facilities for adventure games and leisure activities – indoor and outdoor. And to give you a high, we can even arrange hot air ballooning and helicopter joy rides.
A: To start with, we have 10 state-of-the-art conference / banquet halls, with the latest conference support equipment. This is backed by an experienced in-house team that makes sure your conferences and events are enabled smoothly and efficiently. In addition to core conference support, our team will help you with leisure activities, entertainment and team building exercises. Peripheral event support can include poolside dinners with bar-be-que stations, dance floors and a mini-business centre.
For parties and weddings, our event handling capacity can exceed 2000 guests – we can support this with theme ideas, specially decked environments, ice cutouts, vegetable carvings, bhel-puri stalls, palm readers, astrologers, mehendi stalls and lots of attractions for kids.
