If you are traveling with people aged
sixty and above, you should the following tips into consideration
to make their vacation as comfortable and as pleasurable as yours.
o When you are traveling with someone who has medical needs, make
sure you give them frequent breaks – more so during the hottest
months of the year.
o Ensure that they drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and
don’t get dehydrated.
o Carry a written prescription for any medication that they will
need during the trip.
o Split their supply of medication into two parts – carry
one when traveling and keep the other in the resort room. So, even
if you lose your bag, they won’t lose their complete medical
supply.
o Keep the resort informed of any significant health problems that
the senior citizen may have. This background information can be
helpful in getting proper treatment during an emergency.
o Pack some nightlights (and spare bulbs) so that the senior citizen
will not have trouble navigating around the rooms at night.
o Bring a list that has the names and numbers of his/her physician(s)
who need(s) to be contacted in case of an emergency.
o Plan ahead for their special dietary needs and contact the restaurant
in advance to ensure that they get their diet.
o If their medication requires refrigeration, request that you have
a refrigerator in your room.
o Ensure that they use sunscreen when stepping out during summer.
o If your travel dates are flexible, select the times of year that
are less crowded and when cooler temperatures are the norm.
